Crows are trying to get their kids to leave nests find food on their own. Difficult part of the year as the offspring are constantly are 'whining' cawing for food but the parents do not want to bring them any.
As far as I can tell the parents really hate it, miserable over it but a necessary step. If you see or hear these birds cawing and another bird or birds nearby hunched over on a wire or tree or something, that is the parent enduring their kids' caws. They want the kid to fly to grab the food themselves instead of being fed by the parent.
Wonder if it is more of a problem in Crow families without previous seasons offspring with them, totally new mates. Maybe, maybe not, be interesting to find out.
